Germicidal UV LEDs
Traditional methods for generating germicidal UV light use mercury discharge lamps which are not environmentally sustainable and can be hazardous and difficult to dispose.
Recent advances in LED technology produced novel UV LEDs that generate specific UV wavelengths from solid-state microchips. Miniature, robust, and operating with a low electrical power, UV LEDs deliver highly stable output at specific wavelengths needed for the application. With advantages of size, weight, power consumption and lifetime UV LEDs are highly configurable in designs that disinfect diverse surfaces.
Producing the optimal germicidal wavelength of 275nm, UV LEDs have demonstrated rapid germicidal effect, killing 99.9% of coronavirus in 1 second.
The germicidal power of uv light is well established, with scientific publications dating back over 60 years.
Due to the high energy of UVC, it is harmful when directly exposed to skin and eyes. For this reason, any UVC-based products must be used in unoccupied rooms or used by personnel who are shielded and protected.
